Belgium - Rock Werchter

Caratoes was invited to paint a mural in her home country of Belgium, an experience that evokes cherished memories of her early days spent drawing in the living room above her family's Chinese restaurant. As a child, she would spend hours studying and replicating the faces she saw on television and in magazines, yet in the small towns of Belgium, her drawings predominantly featured Caucasian faces. She often felt a sense of disappointment, as neither her family members nor her own features seemed to fit the mold of the models she aspired to replicate, with their unique traits perceived as "too unusual."

Reflecting on her journey of self-discovery and acceptance, Caratoes now feels immense pride in her work. The opportunity to paint a large mural serves as a powerful reminder that beauty comes in all forms. She believes that if her teenage self were to see this mural, she would recognize that their faces are beautiful and deserving of representation on billboards, murals, and even at major music festivals in Belgium.

Caratoes expresses her gratitude to @arnequinze, @northwestwalls, and @rockwerchterfestival for providing her with this incredible project.
