Kukulkan rebirth in the Jungle

Tulum - Mexico

Caratoes was invited to craft a sculpture in the enchanting heart of the Mayan jungle in Tulum, at the renowned ayahuasca house, Toto Aiko. Driven by the universal urge to shed old identities during the COVID pandemic, she embarked on a transformative creative journey. In her exploration, she uncovered a fascinating connection: the ancient Mayan god Kukulkan is the same as the Chinese dragon, illuminating the idea that all myths share a common origin, expressed through different names across cultures.

For an entire year, Caratoes facilitated ayahuasca ceremonies with healers from South and Central America, conducting rituals around a large, inviting fire and her dragon sculpture. This unique experience provided her with the incredible opportunity to engage with each healer, delving into the significance of dragons and serpents in their native cultures—a truly once-in-a-lifetime adventure.
